The German and Dutch governments have taken the lead on the proposals, crafting legislation that would make it illegal to provide false information to Internet service providers and require phone companies to save detailed records on customer usage.
In a story on Yahoo! European nations are looking at ways to acquire information when criminal activity becomes involved. By creating this legislation, you’re encroaching on people’s right to privacy. While it could help at sometime in the future, the cost is giving up personal rights. At what cost are you willing to give up your privacy? While most email sites merely require a name and password, they want full information in the future. Will that happen? Not likely anytime soon, but there’s talk of it at this time.
