Where Will Your Business Be in Five Years?

by Small Business Ideas

Let’s look at starting a new business. Where do you see yourself in five years? When do you see yourself making a profit? How long will it take you to reach that goal, and how long are you willing to work towards it?

Most businesses do not see profits in the beginning of a business, and many business owners are dismayed by the unexpected expenses they didn’t know about. That’s why it’s important to look at the full picture before jumping into something. You don’t want to have to invest your life savings to bail yourself out. Being prepared is the first step towards success. Having a plan is where that comes in.

Business plans make you really break down big pieces into smaller pieces and look at them. In fact, if you’re looking for a business loan, you’ll need a very thorough business plan when you apply. Nobody is going to loan you money just because you say you can succeed. Take the time to draw up a concise and well thought out plan, and you’ll have a more realistic idea of where you’ll be not only next year, but also five years from now.

In an odd twist, my husband came home from work today late, because his company was looking at their budget until the year 2010. Large companies look ahead, and so should you.
