Have You Been To Your Competition’s Place Lately?

by Small Business Ideas

When you’re in business, sometimes it’s easy to get complacent with the way you do things. Life is moving along smoothly, things seem to work, and everybody knows their part to play. Great! Right? Has everyone gotten too comfortable that tiny details slip by unnoticed? Do your customers get greeted with the same sincerity and enthusiasm as when you first opened and aimed to impress new clients? Sometimes looking at something with fresh eyes can be a learning experience.

Who is your competition? If you’re in business as a small retail boutique, go to somebody else’s boutique as a customer and look around. Does it seem fresher, more upbeat, what music are they playing in the background. Is there a theme, a color, an attitude that says chic or hip? How do the employees dress, do they seem happy to be there? How’s the service? Call and see how they answer the phone. Do they go above and beyond, do they sound happy to greet you?

Do you own a restaurant? Visit other restaurants often to see how they do things. What things do you like about the places you visit, and how might you be able to relook at your own business in comparison.

When we fall into patterns, sometimes we overlook what a customer may be seeing.
