Blogger and Podcaster: Monthly Magazine Review

blogpod.jpg

I got the October issue of Blogger and Podcaster the other day, but haven’t had a chance to check it out until now. The first thing I was reading about was the conferences going on. I’m itching to go to Vegas in the worst way, but I’ll be heading to Florida for some family fun time, so it’s not working out for me. Color me jealous, I so want to be there! Maybe next year will work for me… On that note, this is their 6th issue, and they are looking at making small changes and improvements as they continue to grow! Congratulations on doing a great job thus far.

In their new LeadIn section, there’s an interesting article about the FCC and the Dept of Justice. Interesting reading for sure, and really makes you think about the free market overall, meaning the reach. Speaking of regulation, wouldn’t they only have authority to regulate say US stuff…this is global baby. Doesn’t that cross their boundaries? Don’t know, but I do find the article quite interesting, and you may too! They also speak of pricing issues.

On a sidebar, there’s a quick blurb about i.typepad.com, for iPhone users. Interesting, didn’t realize they had stuff like that all ready.

My Bloglines reader has a newer version, though I’m not sure I’m switching quite yet. Anyway, good to know, since I’ve been busy and haven’t taken notice myself. I’ll have to jot a sticky note down to check it out later. (Funny how sitting at a computer, and trying to stay organized, it’s the old pen and paper sticky note that I rely on more than any other.)

Paul Colligan wrote an article about Podcast Consultants, and I realized that’s a new career type, huh? It’s not terminology you’d have been hearing a few years back. What do you do for a living? I’m a Podcast Consultant. He offers a list of ten tips, so if you’re into podcasting, check it out.

On page 15, Shel Israel wrote an interesting take on Blogging, and how things move on and people change. It’s true that the web is continually moving, and what works for people at one time, may not work for them later. Earlier adopters are moving on to other experiences, and others will cling until there is nothing to cling to. Let’s face it, we all grow and change. I have multiple sites, but there are a few I’m ready to move on from, and I’ve grown other sites. Change is good…

I love the piece by Tee Morris on Twitter. Now there’s Jaiku and Pownce, and don’t forget to keep up with Facebook, MySpace, and all those other Web 2.0’s so you can be on the next big wave. I’ll tell you, I hate it. I hate the social networking part of it, though I know it’s good to be connected. I dig Facebook, I get the concept, but it eats time. Sure I have access to a lot of people, great networking opportunities and more, but it eats time. Twitter, these sentences with links, let’s face it, people know Google love them and they may get a big more exposure dropping a link in there. I’ve been guilty myself. I don’t care if you’re “eating your Wheaties now, then going out”. It doesn’t change my life, I don’t need to know. I have friends who love this stuff…but the more I dabble in it, the less I care about it.

Big Harry Potter type article, podcasts, and such….skipping through this one, just not interested. If you’re into it, lost of reading for you.

The next article is one that really grabbed me. It’s a simple basic thought, and the title told me so much alone….”veterans sometimes forget the basics, but you should remember them”..keep it simple, don’t forget the basics. It’s a great lesson for a lot of things in life. Okay, off to read the article……I’m back, excellent article. Great reading, and was a good refresher for me as well. Let’s face it, sometimes we just write and forget some of these details. It’s come at a good time for me, as I’m just starting to hit that point where I realize I need to be better focused, and stop overlooking the basics.

On page 32, you can read an excerpt from the book “Podcasting for Profit”.

The blog scorecard page…well, I wasn’t sure if it was missing a page honestly. I flipped back to the previous page, and sure enough, it was starting an article like that…or well, a section. I wouldn’t know it, there’s not header except for the tiny corner caption. It almost reminds me of starting something in the middle. A header might be helpful. I wasn’t sure if it was connected to the previous page or not. I’m guessing it’s an over site, but seriously, nobody caught this? Instead there’s a tiny editor’s note in the top left corner.

You can read Miles Durfee’s latest post about whether a blog is good for a business tool on his regular IBNMA Beat.

There’s an interview with The Podcast Network’s Cameron Reilly on page 43.

Looking forward to reading the next issue. If you aren’t subscribed yet, on my sidebar you can follow the link and get a FREE digital subscription.
