You’ve advertised for a position in your company, and now you’ve got a stack of resumes on your desk to sort through (or computer). After going through a heap of choices, you’ve finally made your decision. What now? If you don’t contact the other people who aren’t getting hired, you may be getting calls over and over, asking if you’ve seen their resume yet.
A very simple solution to this is to simply have a standard letter that you can send out letting you know that you’ve taken the time to read over their resume. People want to be acknowledged, and while nobody wants to receive a letter letting them down, they’d rather know, then be left in the dark.
By letting the potential candidates know that you’ve looked over their resume, and that they don’t meet your position needs at this point in time, let them know you’ll keep their resume in mind in the future. A polite and neat note at the end thanking them for their time goes a long way. It’s truly the little things that make you stand apart.
