Are You Afraid of Change?

I’ll be the first to admit, I like consistency, along with stability. I like change when it comes to things like where I travel, but in business it can be downright scary. Especially when your career and finances are riding on it.

The problem with lack of change though is that without change, there’s seldom growth. People go along thinking that if everything is working how it should be, why mess with success. I’ll tell you why…because sometimes things change and you aren’t the one making those changes. Life throws you curve balls sometimes, and you need to be prepared.

I personally went through a recent change that wasn’t my idea. I didn’t have a say, and it was up to me to figure out the best approach to take.  I was in a safe routine, things were rolling along, and I had been looking a little bit ahead, but I lost site of my long term goals. It was easy to focus on my short term goals. Easier doesn’t mean smarter!

This change, which really threw me for a loop caused me to re look at where I wanted to be not next month, but next year, and even a few years down the road. By refocusing on the long term, I was able to get back on track, make the necessary changes, and bounce right back. You can cower in the corner and complain about changes, or you can figure out what you need to do to move forward.

Are you someone who will fail in the face of change? Or will you fight back, and keep your business moving smoothly ahead?

What will you do if your main way of doing something changes? How will you adapt? Maybe it’s time you draw up a backup plan.
